Beretta 1301 vs benelli m2
Opening up the loading port can be done with a dremel, file and sandpaper at home if you don't go crazy with it. I learned quad loading with an unmodified port, my port isn't opened up nearly as much as others now but I can still load just as fast. Mossbergs I have seen do not run very well period, I think there are multiple issues there. SLP's had a problem with gas piston's breaking, I'm not sure if that problem was fixed but most that were using them have gone away from them. I've seen a lot more matches lost by unreliable guns than I have seen won because of a small technological advantage. Those are the top 3 points for my shotgun as it is for all my competition guns. 3Gun Shotgun is a buy once/cry once kinda deal. The ports are bigger which makes loading much easier.ĬCMU runs five M2s. The M2 is the primary.Īlso, if you are buying for 3Gun, get a 3.5" chambered Gun. I have an M2 and a VersaMax, both fully set up for 3Gun.
Heavier than the m2 by far, but softer recoiling. At a minimum you will need the lifter replaced unless you don't like the flesh on your thumb. Eventually you will need it tuned and lightened by a gunsmith like Benny at Triangle Shooting Sports. Loading the M2 is like flicking a booger off your finger in comparison. And they load hard compared to the other choices, it's hard to lighten the lifter spring on that design. And they won't hold up over the long term if you shoot and practice the way you should. Op.I have a Win SX2 which is the older version of the FNH. They're going to cost a bit more than the others but have some nice guns coming out now. Hayes Custom outside of Austin is a newer company but the two brothers grew up building guns with their grandfather at Clark Custom so they know what they're doing and also compete regularly.īriley in Houston also does 3-Gun work. He's been in the 3 Gun game for 30+ years. He's an excellent gunsmith that builds a reliable gun but doesn't pay attention much to cosmetic's which doesn't bother me. Triangle Shooting Sports in Corpus built mine. If you want a really nice shotgun that's competition ready there are several great gunsmiths in Texas. Front sight, adjust shell latch, bend barrel to point of aim, rear sight (I don't use one), trigger, lighten bolt carrier, are the other popular modifications. Other modifications are pretty minor when it comes to improvements in performance. Next modifications are open up the loading port and welded shell lifter. The only modification you have to do right away is get an extended magazine tube, I like the +9 tubes which give you a capacity of 12+1, this allows you to load 4 at the start if the stage allows and more flexibility with reloading later in the stage. There's not a huge difference between the 21 and 24" barrel, if I had the choice today I'd go 24" but it's not a big deal. I have only replaced springs in that timespan. Mine has a 21" barrel due to the rules that were in place when I started 3 gun long ago.

They are the most reliable trouble free semi-auto shotguns by far. I've been running the same Benelli M2 for 10 years now.
